Have you ever felt that you would like the opportunity to help people enjoy a sport that you have found to be rewarding? Maybe you are looking for a little additional income doing something you enjoy with people that share your interests in motorcycling.

No matter your reason for wanting to become an instructor, the Montana Motorcycle Rider Safety program is looking for individuals with the dedication, experience and people skills to help teach the Montana Rider Education courses.

The RiderCoachsm Preparation Course (RPC)

The MSF RiderCoachsm Preparation course is approximately 70 hours long and conducted over 9 days. As part of RiderCoachsm Preparation,RiderCoachsm Candidates must pass a riding skill test. This is the same test that is used as the final riding examination for the BRC – however, the evaluation standards are slightly higher for RiderCoachsm Candidates. Some RiderCoachsm Candidates do fail the riding skill test – taking a BRC shortly before the RiderCoachsm Preparation course helps prepare candidates for this test.

RiderCoachsm Preparation Course Registration Fee

The course registration costs $150, which is non-refundable.
All RC's must be registered with fees paid no later than four weeks prior to the start of the RCP course.
Any course with less than 6 candidates registered by the cut-off date will be cancelled.

The following items are required to participate in RCP:

  • Over-the-ankle sturdy footwear
  • Full-finger gloves
  • Long-sleeved shirt or jacket
  • Long pants without holes – preferably jeans
  • DOT approved helmet
  • Eye protection if using an open-face helmet with face shield open
  • Have a current valid motorcycle endorsement for at least three years
  • Foul weather gear—optional, but the course is ran rain or shine.

It is strongly recommended that you take the BRC within a 24-month period preceding your enrollment in the RCP. The strong recommendation is to ensure that the RiderCoachsm Candidate has a working knowledge of the course structure, is familiar with the curriculum, and can perform all of the riding exercises.

Requirements to Pass the RCP

  • 100% attendance in both classroom and riding sessions
  • Pass a riding skill evaluation
  • Attend the entire BRC student-teaching course
  • Pass the student-teaching evaluation
