Meeting Minutes

1. Call to Order
Chairman Dal Smilie called the meeting to order at 12:45 pm. Present at the meeting were MMSAC members Ladd Paulson, Anita Drews-Oppedahl, Michele Hand, Ken Conrad, and Dal Smilie. Also present were Doug Tyrrell and Michele Calvert from the MMRS office at MSU-Northern; RiderCoaches® Eric Albright, Justin Anthony, Frank Chesarek, DJ Christianson, Kris Fenton, Terry Funk, Jim Iverson, Karen Iverson, Jeff Lapham, Kim Lemke, Jeff Logan, Jerry McGillivray, Trevor Mikkelson, Dan Peterson, John Powell, Ken Radovich, Melissa Rokey, Justin Sharp, Udell Sharp, and Butch Sturre; and Teresa Turville.
2. Minutes of May 28, 2003 Meeting
Minutes need to be corrected to reflect gaining 7 new RiderCoaches® in 2002, resulting in 25 active RiderCoaches®. Minutes were approved as corrected.
3. Old Business
Discussion was held on the need to work with surrounding states. Anita will write a report to review what she found out about the topic.
Dal and Ladd were reappointed to serve another 4-year term.
4. New Business
Program statistics were presented. There were 1313 students registered for classes at 11 locations. Discussion was held. It was suggested that the MMRS office get a list of all clubs and organizations in the state to advertise classes to them, specifically the ERC.
Trail riding by minors and the licencing requirements was discussed. People riding street-legal ATV’s on the roads must have a motorcycle endorsement. The different types of endorsements were discussed. This issue and the definition of a “road” is also being discussed at the national level.

The next meeting will be held in May.
